Clarence Barber- Two Bagatelles

Clarence Barber's works for saxophone continue to be diversified in their settings and musical language. Two Bagatelles, his second quartet, was written for saxophonist David Schwartz, as was his first quartet, Vignettes. His other works for saxophone published by to the Fore Publishers include Kiribilli for solo alto saxophone, Lincolnshire Whimsy for saxophone ensemble (SSAAATTBBs), Vestiges of Sorrow for alto saxophone, tuba and percussion, and the New York Concerto, a four movement concerto for alto saxophone and wind ensemble.

Clarence Barber is currently assistant director of bands for the Midview Local Schools in Grafton Ohio, and teaches percussion at Lorain County Community College. A 1973 graduate of Kent State University, Barber has done graduate work at Kent State and the University of Akron. A composition student of Walter Watson and Ralph Turek, Barber studied percussion with James Adkins, Michael Rosen and Larry Snider. The composer is a member of ASCAP, the Percussive Arts Society, Ohio Music Education Association, MENC, and is a "composer-friend" of the Tubists Universal Brotherhood Association (T.U.B.A.).
